We were at B2W Brunch2Wine in Taman Molek for lunch today at owner Derek's invitation.
Brunch2Wine is on the second floor unit (above The Little Island 小槟岛 cafe).
After climbing a short flight of stairs, we entered a space with red brick wallpaper, wood grain furnishings, black leather, wine bottles and orange hued lighting reminding me of welcoming English taverns.
In the compact space, there were tables, booths and private rooms. There is space for large groups as well as for couples. There were bright red trimmings heralding the imminent arrival of Chinese New Year (next month).
As it was lunch time, we tried one of Brunch2Wine's set lunches (available on weekdays from 11:00am to 3:00pm). The basic set comes with starter, mains, and ice lemon tea for RM15 nett.
For starter, I opted for Soup of the Day which was a thick tomato soup served with toast and a cheerful soft boiled egg. The tangy, sweet, savoury creamy soup with eggy flavour was delicious and I enjoyed it. (The other option for starter is carpaccio of beef.)
For mains, my choice was duck breast as I am love ducks. I always go for duck when it is available :-D
I enjoyed Brunch2Wine's duck breast as it was tender, juicy and had that slight fresh duck gaminess which I like. The wine sauce added a tangy sweet dimension to the duck.
The mashed potato laced with "truffle" oil was delightful.
Other options for mains are Spirali Pasta, Classic Fish and Chips and Vegetarian Risotto.
Add RM5 and we can have a dessert.
After the set lunch, we tried the Green Pea Risotto RM22++.
The barley rice cooked with tomato and green peas has a nice well balanced mild savoury sweetness and gentle tanginess. The rice was done soft al dente. Personally like my risotto slightly nuttier. (I am sure the chef will oblige if we mention it to the staff when making our orders.)
Finally, we had the Prime Angus Ribeye which Brunch2Wine touts as the best steak in town (RM160++).
Indeed, this was a very good, delicious steak.
The premium New Zealand ribeye was lightly seasoned and then cooked to medium doneness.
We loved the beefy goodness with every bite of the tender juicy beef.
The Prime Angus Ribeye is served with sides of corn, broccoli, and fried mushrooms. It also comes with several dipping sauces.
