Yana Asam Pedas Johor Batu Pahat JK1353
As I am a big fan of asam pedas, I was glad to stumble upon Yana Asam Pedas in Batu Pahat :-D
It was already late afternoon, near closing time when we arrived at Yana Asam Pedas. The simple small shop lot was rather packed with furniture. Groups of customers were leaving after their meals when we arrived.
Almost everything was already sold out for the day, but fortunately there were still two slabs of Ikan Pari (Stingray) available. I quickly snapped up one of them as I love Ikan Pari cooked with asam pedas.
Already late in the day, yet the Ikan Pari still tasted fresh and the white flesh was tender and juicy.
The watery asam pedas broth was gently savoury, spicy, sweet with a slight sourness, and I could drink it all up happily.
There were still a couple of Ikan Kembung available and I gladly grabbed one of these too.
Nicely tender and fresh with that characteristic flavour of Ikan Kembung - a fish I ate since my childhood.
I would like to try Yana's Ikan Merah steak in asam pedas but they were all sold out already.
There were still a couple of Ikan Merah (Red Snapper) fish heads but we were too full already and still wanted to explore BP town for other food as well. So, we had to take a rain check for these until next time (I hope not too long :-D ).
Ms Yana has been running this eatery named after her with her husband for five years now. The asam pedas broth is made with Yana's family's heirloom recipe. The key is a blend of good quality chilies which gives the broth an interesting layered kind of spiciness. All the different types of fish are cooked in the same asam pedas broth.
The prices were prominently displayed on the yellow overhead signboard at the serving counter. Prices are very reasonable - just a fraction of JB prices.

Along the same street is Ali Asam Pedas which is also very popular with BP locals and which I also liked.
I like the Batu Pahat style of asam pedas and here is my asam pedas wish list for my next BP food trail:
