My JB friend Chef Brian noticed that my bak kut teh list is missing his family's favourite bak kut teh shop - Food Master in Taman Setia Indah. Chef Brian's dad who is himself a bak kut teh hawker also loves Food Master BKT shop.

With a recommendation like this, I wasted not time to visit Food Master Bak Kut Teh.

I wanted to try ribs and pig tail but pig tails were sold out when I was at Food Master in the evening. So, we had ribs and pork elbow suggested by the boss.

The bak kut teh came piping hot with the bubbling hot broth in a clay pot. The pork come in large chunks with the tender juicy meat barely clinging onto the bone. Soft bites were enough to coax the sweet tasting meat to give up it's feeble grip on the bone.

The brownish broth had a heavy smooth body with gentle herbal aroma. The broth had well balanced savoury sweet herbal flavours. It was not greasy and was highly drinkable :-D

Thanks to Chef Brian, I now have another favourite bak kut teh shop in my list.

We wanted to order the usual braised pork trotter but the boss suggested that we try his signature pork trotter cooked in the "dry" bak kut teh style.

The pork trotter was chopped into large chunks and stir fried in a clay pot with Food Master's own house blended sauce, chili padi, Chinese chives, leek and tiny strips of toasted cuttlefish.

The soft, chewy pork trotters were enveloped in a mild savoury sweet spicy sauce. It was delicious.

We like this "dry" pork trotters and would try ribs cooked this way, next time.

The customary preserved vegetable was good too.

After settling the total bill of RM40 for the food, rice and home cooked barley drinks, we chatted a while with the friendly boss Mr Teoh.

Mr Teoh hails from Bukit Mertajam 大山腳 (Penang) where he and his brother ran the 食王肉骨茶 for over 20 years. 食王肉骨茶 has a strong loyal following in Penang. Mr Teoh ventured out to Kuantan for 10 years before coming to Johor Bahru 2 years ago.
