Banana Cakes at Kampung Resipi, S'mart Pandan Johor Bahru JB ⭐⭐⭐✱✱

You know, when people talk about banana cakes in Johor Bahru, the first thing that come to everyone's mind is Hiap Joo Bakery. Of course, Hiap Joo's banana cakes baked with it's 97 year old wood fired oven have no equal in JB. Nevertheless, my friend John recently introduced me to another delicious banana cake - by Kampung Resipi at S'mart Pandan.



Kampung Resipi is a kiosk inside S'mart Pandan off Jalan Pandan (near the old Carrefour).



Pardon a slight digression - S'mart Pandan is a good place to get daily necessities as the goods are comprehensive, fresh and competitively priced. From my conversations with hawkers, many get their supplies from S'mart Pandan.



Kampung Resipi makes all it's pastries fresh here at the kiosk, including it's delicious banana cake.



The banana cakes at Kampung Resipi are made just with flour, eggs, vegetable oil and real banana. There is no preservatives, no essence, no colouring. (We usually buy our banana cake bundled with pumpkin cake for RM9.90 and we like the banana cake more 😄 )



I like to eat Kampung Resipi's banana cake after letting it rest for a few hours and then chilling it overnight in the fridge. The cake is moist, slightly dense, and when I bite into it's tender sponge, it releases mild banana fragrance. The cake has gentle natural banana sweetness and a bit of egginess. It may lack the fluffiness and smokiness of Hiap Joo's banana cake but otherwise, it's a very nice banana too. Perfect with hot coffee or tea.



3-Star (out of 5). If you are a banana cake fan, Kampung Resipi's fresh bakes at S'mart Pandan is one more good option in Johor Bahru. S'mart Pandan is a good wet market and grocery place, and if you are here, do pick up a couple of banana cakes for a try. Maybe you will like it too.
