When we were lunching at The Wild last month, co-owner Shan recommended that we try co-owner Chef Jun's signature roast pork belly for dinner.
Shan also recommended Chef Jun's vegetarian pizza.
As we enjoyed our lunch at The Wild, I gathered my buddies for our regular meet up at The Wild ☜ click.
The Wild is a simple, casual diner at Westway Building just across the road from Haw Par Villa MRT station - so, it is super accessible by public transport. There are a few food outlets here including a Korean BBQ joint, a kopitiam, dessert shop/cafe etc. The building is relatively new, so not all the shop lots have been taken up yet.
We ordered 2 slabs of roast pork belly for four of us to share. (SGD20 per serving.)
The roast pork belly comes with a little bowl of savoury spicy dip, mashed potato and some leafy greens.
The pork belly has the nice 3 layers of skin, fat and lean meat. The golden brown skin was crackly like a thick savoury hard biscuit. The fat and meat were tender and moist, and gentle in flavour. We can eat this without needing any carbs like white rice to balance the savouriness or saltiness. I am happy to eat the roast pork belly all by itself.
The Wild's signature vegetarian pizza (SGD18).
We all love this biscuit crisp pizza with soft molten cheese and vegetables like olives, cherry tomatoes, capsicum etc. Simple ingredients, it's all in the execution. This vegetarian pizza is a Must Try at The Wild.
Everyone enjoyed these Tangy Wings (SGD8) but it was just ok lah as it reminded the old uncle (me 😝) of fried chicken wings in those trendy, Instagram-worthy (what is that?!) Korean inspired joints sprouting up everywhere 😱
The middle wing joints were fried till crispy outside then slathered with a savoury tangy sauce. The inside was tender and juicy, and most of the taste came from the robust tangy sauce.
Pancetta Baked Cod (SGD32).
A slab of cod wrapped with bacon strips and baked. The mild savouriness of the bacon is layered with the natural sweetness of the juicy white cod flesh. The tender texture of bacon also complements the soft white cold meat. This would be perfect if the cod's fresh natural fish flavour was more pronounced.
Mantaiko Carbonara SGD18.
The pasta was done soft al dente, greased with olive oil, topped with onsen tamago (soft cooked egg) and smothered with layers of savouriness from the salty mentaiko sauce, katsuobushi shavings (bonito) and marinated fish roe.
Four of us shared this Mushroom Salad (SGD11). Each us got a couple of leaves or stalks and all I remembered was a bit of tangy saltiness and sweet crunch from the juicy vegetables.
The Oreo Cheesecake SGD8 which satisfied the cheesecake monster in me.
Coffee is always good at The Wild.
Today's blend is Papa Palheta which is a mix of Guatemalan and Ethiopian Arabica. It has a smooth body with pecan and cherry sweetness (I just copied the taste notes lah....., but seriously, this coffee is nice - just look at Mic 😱 )
Each one of us spent SGD40 tonight.
3-Star (out of 5). If you live or work around the Har Paw Villa area, The Wild is a nice little hang out place. The Wild's set lunches offer delicious working meals at competitive prices. For dinner, you can check out their roast pork belly and vegetarian pizza which are really good.
