I have a former colleague who is a big fan of Yong Xiang Xing Dou Fu. Every time we were at People's Park food centre, he would volunteer to queue and buy us yong tau foo for lunch. We joked that he must be a shareholder of Yong Xiang Xing Dou Fu 😝

One of the big draws of Yong Xiang Xing Dou Fu is they make all the yong tau foo pieces right there at the stall, just before opening for business at around 1:00pm.

Not surprisingly, there is always a queue at Yong Xiang Xing Dou Fu. What surprised me was they will bring the food to your table after you have paid and given them your table number. So, the number of people waiting is longer than the queue 😜 But, the queue clears pretty fast. I waited just 10 minutes for my food.

The frenzy at the open kitchen in front. The yong tau foo pieces sit simmering in the softly bubbling broth, exchanging flavours with each other.

The yong tau foo pieces are pre-set - we just choose the big or small serving. I opted for the SGD4.50 "big" serving which is like a medium sized snack as this YTF does not come with any noodles 😝

Yong Xiang Xing's light broth is a winner. Despite it's clear looks, the soup has a nice natural mild tasting savoury sweet flavour that is quite addictive. It's main ingredients are stock (pork) bone and soy beans. Just a light puff of white pepper powder and no flavour boosters like MSG.

There's fish ball, white tofu with minced pork and fish, fried tofu with minced pork and fish, and fish roll (wrapped with fried bean curd skin).

The fish ball is machine made without much fish meat texture and just a little fish flavour. But, the tofu pieces with minced pork and fish are all fresh and delicious. The tofu is soft and smooth like custard. The tender minced pork and fish taste fresh and naturally sweet.

The sweet sauce is the old school type with fermented bean curd flavour. It comes mixed with the generic salty spicy sourish chili sauce.

3-Star (out of 5). Yong Xiang Xing's old style yong tau foo still has the old school flavours. We can still smell the soya bean and taste the pork and fish's natural sweetness. Great soup too, and not forgetting the nostalgic tasting sweet chili sauce blend.
