So..., it is good to be kiasu, again. I was already quite full from the morning's tastings, but decided that I can still tuck in another bowl of fish soup.
Reached the front in about 30 minutes. They have fish soup / noodles and seafood soup / noodles. There's a little sign that says they open only on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. No wonder then that I didn't stumble upon them before, till now.
As I was ¾ tank full, I opted for fish slices (instead of seafood which has prawns, fish balls and fish slices). I also didn't get noodles or rice.
In the bowl, there's just soup, ikan batang fish slices, lettuce, choy sum, tomato, tofu and a sprinkle of fried shallot. Oh...., price was $5.
The soup was clear, light, salty savoury and had that distinct green taste of choy sum which I don't really like.
I like it that the fish slices come with skin. The soft-tender fish slices tasted gently savoury sweet. There was no fishy or off taste. A bit of the green choy sum taste was infused or clung to the fish slices.
Not adding this yet to my list of favourite fish soup in Singapore.
After I am done, I went around peeking at what other customers are eating 😛 The longest queue at Sims Vista must stand for something 🤔 Their top seller seemed to be seafood noodles and seafood soup. I shall come back for that and update this post.
Any fans of Hock Heng here? Would love to hear your views 🤟
Another, different opinion on Hock Heng's fish soup.

ReplyDelete"Standard drop a lot! Last time the old man selling was very good then dunno why they stopped. I understand he want to retire, then they rented out the stall to that famous Sumo Prawn which they open a new outlet there. i hearsay the son know the owner of Sumo Prawn. Then Sumo Prawn did not pick up any business there and they closed like within 1 or 2 months. This Hock Heng re-open with a new signboard and run by the son. So when they re-open, i queued to try but the standard is not good that i boycott it ever since. I think the branding is stil strong that lure many people over and also probably of the "monkey see monkey do" effect of the stall with long queue sure good."
