Whenever I am around Albert Centre, I'll pop in at Zheng Xing Mei Shi stall and see if they are open for the day. If yes, I'll treat myself to a little tub of tau suan 豆爽. I've always have a sweet tooth for the hot mung bean dessert and Zheng Xing's version is a nicer one.
Zheng Xing's tau suan is not overly sweet and a little more fragrant than
others. The mung beans densely suspended in starch are soft (not mushy) with a subtle bit of residual bite. The starch has just the right syrupy consistency - neither watery nor gummy / pasty.
Making the seemingly simple dessert takes two days as the mung beans are
cleaned, soaked, steamed and cooled before cooking in starch. Hence, Zheng Xing is closed
on Mon, Thurs, Sat when the hawkers spend their "off days" preparing food.
While stalking Beauty World Centre Food Court, I stumbled upon an another Zheng Xing outlet. The menu at both outlets are the same.
Naturally, I treated myself to a tub of my
favourite tau suan.
Stall name: Zheng Xing Desserts

Nearest MRT: Doorstep of Beauty World station

I am so glad that this Beauty World tau suan tastes and smells the same as the one at Albert Centre. If anything, I like it that the savoury you char kway at Beauty World is slightly more crisp adding more texture to the dessert.
I need to try their other desserts 😋 If you have tried, let us know how you like it or don't 🙏

Still working on the Beauty World Centre list but do check out this marvellous beef brisket and one of the best soya sauce chicken in Singapore.

My wifey's fave is their green beans dessert, with fresh coconut cream. I go for the tau suan.
