Jala Jala Seafood Shell Out Bucket Kuching 网红手抓海鲜

Our last dinner in Kuching was at Jala Jala Seafood 网红手抓海鲜 before catching our flight back home to Singapore. Seafood shell out or Louisiana boil restaurants were popular in Singapore and West Malaysia a while back but have since faded out.

It's a pity as seafood shell outs are such great fun, especially for parties. Fun gatherings with good friends and family is an idea that never goes out of fashion as Jala Jala Seafood so well proves.

Jala Jala Seafood has ample doorstep parking. It is just beside Sarawak Plaza mall and very near Kuching city centre.

It is a river side restaurant by the iconic Sarawak River - Sarawak is named after it 😀

After nightfall, we can see the beautifully lit up State Assembly Building in the distance down Sarawak River.

Spacious, airy, comfortable seating though it is not a big place. I like this kind of al fresco dining with simple open shelter.

Ordering is literally as easy as 1, 2, 3.

Choose the seafood set, the sauce (flavour) and the carbs. That's it, that's all. Well, almost.

If that's not enough, choose some sides like sambal seafood and vegetables. (They have stir fried sayur paku and midin, which we must remember to order next time.)

That's it.

Sit back, relax, and your food is on the way to you.

Then, there's fun drinks like liquor, beer, cocktails and non alcohol beverages.

Our premium set with Sarawak pepper sauce. There's prawn, crab, mussel, scallop, corn, broccoli, etc, all enveloped in a peppery savoury gently spicy sauce.

Food was served, poured directly on to thin plastic sheet laid over the table like a tablecloth.

Second set with savoury sweet butter cheese sauce.

We had three sets, the third one with the quintessentially Malaysian kam heong sauce, which is also Jala Jala's most popular flavour.

Step 3, choose your carbs, fried buns or boiled rice.

We had grilled salted crab for side.

It was good as the sea salt brought out the natural sweetness of the meaty fresh crab.

Use your hands! It's more fun with fingers 🤌 Go ahead, gloves are provided.

The fun people behind Jala Jala Seafood are also behind Kantin, a Dayak cuisine restaurant. They have a branch of Kantin at Jewel in Changi airport 👈 click
