Chooby Pizza | 125 Owen Rd, Singapore 218929 🚅 10 minute walk from Farrer Park station ☏ 8923 9814 ⏰ 6pm - 10pm (Sat, Sun, Mon, Tues off) |
I love pizzas and am always on the look out for good pizzeria. Chooby Pizza comes highly recommended with fans even among restaurant chefs who hangout here after work. Opens only three days a week on Weds, Thurs and Fri, eating at Chooby requires reservation ☎️ 8923 9814 beforehand.
Just six pizzas in the menu, not many. Prices are competitive.
Scan this QR code for the sides and drinks menu. Chooby has beer, wine, liquor, whisky and sake. Though we didn't, everyone else ordered fried white bait with tzatziki dip.
I think this is more a drinking than pizza place 🤭
Chooby Pizza spans two shop lots at Owen Road (10 minutes walk from Farrer Park MRT station).
The interior was simple but industrial chic and hip. I think I raised the average age of the room by three fold 😂 Paiseh.. 😛
The kitchen tucked at the back section of the restaurant. The fermented sourdough and pizzas were made and baked right here using two home appliance type electric pizza ovens.
Two of us on a whole day food trail since dawn, we just ordered a Margherita to taste. House kneaded fermented sourdough bread, tomato sauce, fior di latte mozzarella (cow milk) cheese, pecorino (sheep milk) cheese, basil and olive oil.
The bread has a cornicione or raised rim with leopard spots, all the hallmarks of proper Neapolitan pizza.
The pizza was served portioned according to number of pax. No utensils provided, so use your hands which is the proper way to enjoy pizza, I presume 😄 (never been to Italy before 🥺 ).
The spongy rim was soft tender chewy, nice though it lacked crispness outside, leopard spots notwithstanding.
The centre was thin and floppy soft ala Neapolitano.
The main flavour was the cheesy dairy savouriness and sweetness from the creamy, gummy molten cheeses, followed by the taste of olive oil and a bit of basil. The presence of tomato sauce flavour wasn't pronounced. The juiciness of tomato sauce also wasn't felt.
We finished everything. Couldn't understand people who order Neapolitan yet won't eat the crust, its defining feature 🤭 😂
Another point of view from Auditing Foodie, I appreciate this straight talking, matter-of-fact style.

Sound like it is a tad tepid for your taste, eh Tony? Feels like it’s missing your trademark fireworks in your narrative. 😝

ReplyDeleteI had the Polish dough pizza at Liberty Singapore—especially the mushroom and three-cheese—and it was remarkably satisfying.
Tony, you ought to try it; I have a feeling it’s right up your alley. 😀
