We had lunch today at the Naughty Nuri's outlet near Sutera Mall. Naughty Nuri's Warung is an international franchise founded at the legendary beach side BBQ pork ribs and martini stall in Ubud, Bali. How did Balinese style ribs come together with martini in a warung? It's a husband and wife team - Ibu Nuri is the lady behind the naughty ribs and her American husband Brian, the wicked martinis. It's a perfect match 😄
Naughty Nuri's Warung has two outlets in Johor Bahru - one here in Taman Sutera Utama and another at Jalan Serampang in Taman Sri Tebrau. It says something about the thriving JB F & B scene that it has not one but two Naughty Nuri's outlets. Many other international brands are also finding themselves in Johor Bahru.
Naughty Nuri's is huge inside, occupying two shop lot spaces. It is furnished with heavy wooden tables and benches reminding me of jovial beer halls (rather than Bali). I always prefer drinking places with benches rather than only chairs or stools. More friendly mah 😄
There is a well appointed bar - Naughty Nuri's is famed for their BBQ pork ribs and martinis.
Put the blame on me.
Naughty Nuri's sports such a cool and comfortable interior, yet I opted to sit outside at the al fresco area on a steamy hot afternoon. "Need good natural light for best photos" I persuaded the rest 😂
One sip of this Asam Boi Mojito (price RM30).... ouh.... it's all worth it. It's sour, sweet, and salty with a rum kick.
Bali Sunset mocktail of orange juice, lychee and grenadine syrup (price RM13).
Blue Star mocktail is a blend of pineapple juice, blue lagoon, coconut and milk (price RM13).
Anthony Bourdain did say that Naughty Nuri's serves the "best martinis in the world". They have Anthony Bourdain's "favourite martini" on the menu, but we forgot to try one 😂
Beside their cocktails and martinis, Naughty Nuri's claim to fame is, of course, their baby back ribs.
Naughty Nuri's charcoal grilled Famous Pork Ribs (price RM53).
The meat fell off the bone easily and was tender and juicy. There was no porky smell, or if there was any, it was masked by the thick sweet-savoury-tangy glaze wrapping the ribs. There was a slight smokiness from the bits of char on the ribs.
I have not been to the original warung Naughty Nuri's in Bali, so I am not able to compare but this rendition in Sutera is likeable.
Naughty Nuri's also serves Babi Guling - Balinese style BBQ suckling pig. These requires pre-ordering a day ahead as the suckling pigs need at least 5 hours of slow grilling over charcoal embers. (We didn't try this today.)
In addition to their signature drinks and ribs, we also had other dishes from Naughty Nuri's extensive menu.
Siu Bak Salad (price RM22).
Traditional Indonesian Gado Gado (price RM20).
Balinese Pork Mee Goreng (price RM20).
Jimbaran Seafood Rice (price RM40).
King Prawn Pasta (RM38).
Fisherman Soup (priceRM38). I like this soup. With so much "liao" (ingredients) inside, the soup has all the crustacean savoury sweetness layered with corn sweetness and spiced with a little kick from the chili.
Hell Spicy Wings (price RM22).
Porky Cheese Popiah (price RM22).
Dynamite Roll (price RM18). Love this. Inside the crispy wrap, savoury sweet blend of soft minced pork with gooey melted cheese spiked with spicy heat from crunchy fresh chili peppers.
Pork Satay Lilit (price RM19).
Lovely dessert with layers of sweetness from many sweet things in a crispy popiah wrap. Almost melted fried banana rolled in bacon sweetened with a dribble of strawberry sauce, and eaten with vanilla ice cream. Yumaey.
👉 Good place to party as there are plenty of food choices and drinks. Naughty Nuri's Warung signature naughty pork ribs and babi guling with their wicked martinis are good reasons to try them out. Then, there are a lot of additional dishes and desserts with something for everyone to make the partying complete.
All prices are nett.
Eat in moderation, drink responsibly 😄
