I drop by Malaysia Boleh! food court at Jurong Point regularly but have never tried the claypot chicken rice stall. I didn't try it earlier because it is not cooked with charcoal... I am snobbish that way 😂 I relented today and I have to admit that I like it 😃
The queue isn't long at the claypot chicken rice stall. That honour for the longest queue goes to the Penang char kway teow stall 😄
I like it that the claypot rice is cooked from scratch with rice grains 米 (not pre-cooked rice 飯). That also means that waiting time is slightly longer (but, it is always worth a little patience to get the real stuff). To me, if a hawker is willing to do something the good, old way, I think we can honour them by waiting a bit 😄
Don't be fooled by the charcoal stoves. They are ornaments only. Cooking is done on gas stoves - 5 at one go - so the lady is really busy 😄
Claypot chicken rice for SG$5. I thought it is quite reasonable for a Singapore food court in a popular shopping centre.
Malaysia Boleh! claypot chicken rice is quite tasty.
There are interesting layers of savouriness from the dark sauce, marinated chunks of juicy tender chicken, lup cheong (Cantonese waxed sausage), and salted fish. I enjoyed it but it would be perfect for me if the dark sauce packs a sharper savoury-salty flavour to give it some peaks in the taste profile.
Sweetness in the dish comes from the rice and juicy chicken which is good.
The tender rice was nicely done with a slight nutty texture. There were some crispy, gritty bits of caramelised rice 飯焦 - the signature of a good claypot rice.
I could get more 飯焦, if I worked a little harder with my spoon 😄
👉 Malaysia Boleh! has a good claypot chicken rice which we can enjoy in comfort in a convenient place at a reasonable price. That's all I need for a happy meal 😄
