Mamalicious Nyonya House @ Taman Pelangi Johor Bahru 蓮姐传统手制糕点

Buddy KK told me about Mamalicious Nyonya House at Jalan Sri Pelangi where the Pelangi pasar pagi is located (on Mondays and Thursdays). "Meet you at 7:30am because later most of the nice kueh will be snapped up by aunties doing marketing" KK warned me 😄 So, I set my alarm clock to make sure that I got here early.

蓮姐 has been making kueh and selling them along the corridor at Jalan Sri Pelangi for over 10 years. At the little pop up stall, 蓮姐's kueh were sold out in around an hour everyday.

When her daughter May decided to join her, they took up a shop lot at 114, Jalan Sri Pelangi.

Together, they make more kueh which are sold from 6:30am to 10:00am (Fri and Sat off).

We 打包 tapao (took away) a few kueh and nasi lemak, enough for all of today's meals... burp... 😂

The nasi lemak looked attractive as it had a bit of natural light blue colour from butterfly pea petals. 蓮姐 is light handed with the coconut milk. The tender rice is sweet with savoury flavours coming from the fried anchovies, fried peanuts and mildly spicy sambal chili. The nasi lemak comes with an egg. There is enough in this box to make a full meal 😄

Tried a random assortment of 蓮姐 and May's hand made kueh. Besides Nyonya kueh, they make Teochew kueh and even paus (which I shall try next time).

All Mamalicious kueh are made with natural ingredients and without preservatives. When I asked 蓮姐 if I can keep them till the evening, she encouraged me to eat them as soon as possible (means better not... lah 😄 ).

The kueh were all tender but can stiffen a little when the weather is chilly (like today when it rained the whole day). I like it that Mamalicious' kueh are not overly sweet so I can eat my fill without feeling guilty or cloyed.
