While having breakfast at Kang Wei coffee shop in Taman Desa Tebrau this morning, we noticed that the mixed dishes or chap chye png 杂菜饭 stall here is very popular. Many people were eating in and more were taking away boxes of rice and mixed dishes.
The colourful spread of food and fiery drama in the kitchen convinced us to check out this stall 旺来美食阁杂菜饭 in greater detail.
The Lim husband and wife team has been running this chap chye png stall for over twenty years. The stall opens at 8:00am daily serving a wide range of freshly cooked home style dishes. Mr Lim cooks about 25 different dishes each day starting at 8:00am. All 25+ dishes are ready at around 10:00am.
(In Singapore chap chye png is known as "economy rice" 經濟飯. Chap chye png is the closest thing to a home cooked meal at coffee shops and canteens in Singapore and Malaysia.)
Here are just a sampling of dishes from the Lim's impressive buffet spread.
There were several fish dishes.
A few fried chicken dishes.
Pork dishes like this popular Gu Lou Yuk 咕噜肉 Cantonese style sweet and sour pork.
There were many colourful vegetable dishes.
These were just some of the 25+ dishes at 旺来美食阁杂菜饭 stall.
My simple lunch of pork, fish and tofu cost RM6. (We had just a small tasting portion as we had already eaten at a few other places in the morning.)
I like the taste of 旺来美食阁杂菜饭 as the ingredients are fresh. Mr Lim cooks the dishes well - the flavours are mild and well balanced. The freshly cooked food are also not overly greasy. Pricing too is very reasonable.
->> A good place for simple home style dishes well prepared and at reasonable prices.
