Today's lunch was pizzas from Pastaria Abate Italian
Restaurant. One Capricciosa Pizza and one Garlic Prawn Pizza ๐
We have a group of buddies who are regulars at Pastaria Abate and sister
restaurant Puteca Abate Deli & Bistro as we are very fond of the food
and passionate folks at these places.
First, the Garlic Prawn Pizza.
At Pastaria Abate, the sourdough is made in-house. The pizza is assembled with fresh ingredients on order, on 48-hour rested sourdough, and freshly baked in their top of the line Moretti Forni oven.
There was a waft of garlic aroma when I lifted the flap of the pizza box.
The 12-inch pizza was shoehorned into the paper box which kept it warm for
the journey between Pastaria Abate and my home.
The pizza crust is slathered with San Marzano tomato sauce, topped
with Mozzarella cheese, garlic, studded with peeled fresh prawns (we
counted 10 forefinger size crustaceans), and dressed with EVOO (extra virgin
olive oil) and rocket (greens).
This pizza is good - above the savoury-salty, tangy, sweet base, we were
able to discern the crustacean sweetness in the soft-tender meat of the
fresh prawns. Not overly greasy at all.
At Pastaria Abate, there's San Marzano tomato sauce, Mozzarella cheese, pepperoni, mushroom, ham, artichoke, olives, etc.
The Capricciosa Pizza is a carnival of savoury-salty, sweet and subtle tangy flavours with a mix of soft-tender, crisp-chewy textures. Lots of mushroom and artichoke, so the topping is quite juicy (making the middle crust wet and floppy). Lots of flavours but not too greasy at all.
Portobello Fries (price $12.80). Battered fresh portobello mushroom strips
and wedges deep fried till golden brown crisp-chewy.
