This morning, I gave Kacang Pool Mustafa a try as I wanted something light to tide me over before my lunch appointment. Kacang pool is an acquired taste as it is still a relatively unfamiliar dish even though this stall have been around since 1952 (that's 68 years ago 😱 ). It is a good alternative to roti prata, roti John or kaya toast, if you want a change.

The rice is nice too with the requisite chicky savoury sweet flavours infused in the soft grains. Its a busy stall often with huge takeaway orders.... ouch..., if you in the queue.

Always resourceful Uncle Martin suggested Yusof Arni's and my mind instantly switched to that little enclave in Far East Plaza where locals flock to in Orchard Road for comforting meals.

Richly flavoured nasi briyani is one of my favourite indulgences. Today, we went to Koothurar Nasi Briyani at Blk 17 Beach Road for our fix. (Most people just know it affectionately as "the Beach Road nasi briyani" as there is no signboard, the best at Beach Road and many say the whole of Singapore.)

Hungry and alone in Little India, I remembered I had a rain check to come back to Azmi Chapati for chapati and mutton keema. I love this little place because of the freshly made chapatis and the rustic feel of the old corner coffee shop.

When a veteran foodie like Uncle Martin who has tasted a lot more salt than me gets excited about a stall, I pay attention ;-D As most of us happened to be free this Christmas morning, we assembled at Block 16 Bedok South hawker centre for an Indonesian style Christmas lunch.
