Chef Stanley invited me to visit his newly opened restaurant named The Taste located walking distance from Sutera Mall (in Skudai, JB).
Opened just under a month ago, The Taste is already well known in Johor Bahru as 戏院餐厅, the "cinema restaurant" because of it's movie theme.
Actually, The Taste also got off to a flying start because it is the baby of Chef Stanley (and partners). Chef Stanley is well known in JB foodie circles with a fan base from his days at Lazio at Danga Bay, Magnum and Eight Lido - all well known restaurants in JB.
The Taste is Stanley's dream come true as he long wanted to own a family friendly, movie themed, American style casual dining restaurant featuring his favourite movies.
The Taste is also a place where Stanley indulges in his other passion, darts. I found out today that Chef Stanley is also an accomplished darts player :-D
Stanley started us off with a large slab of signature Iberico pork ribs (RM139++).
The Iberico pork ribs were sous vided for 10 hours and brushed with The Taste's house made BBQ sauce then grilled before serving.
The meat was tender and juicy with a nice bite. The BBQ sauce had a savoury slightly smokey herbal sweet flavour.

Next up was another Taste signature, Godzilla Burger (RM88++).
So what is so special about this Godzilla Burger?
Because, it is big enough to feed
But, size is not the only thing that matters. Taste is key too.
Godzilla is a delicious pile of house made beef patties, chicken patties, chicken ham, honey baked ham and pork bacon with lettuce and melted cheese. I love the mix of crunchy and soft textures, and layers of savoury sweetness.
Taste's Sausage Platter (RM99++).
The platter lets sausage lovers taste signature sausages from around the globe - a kind of round the world in seven sausages :-D
We had German Bratwurst, Hot Italian, Spanish Cherizo, American foot long, Japanese Arabiki, Hungarian Gyulai and Swiss smoked garlic. My personal favourite is the German Bratwurst.
Rookworst Sausage (RM32.90++).
Rookworst is a smoked Dutch sausage of ground pork mixed with spices stuffed into a bovine collagen casing.
Universal Platter (RM69++).
Squid tentacles, onion rings, porky fries, French fries, Buffalo wings and pop corn chicken.
Stanley tried more than 20 different brands of luncheon meat before he found this that is crispy outside while juicy and tender inside. These porky fries are also not overly salty.
Hollywood Platter (RM99++).
Fried fish fillet, chicken chop, lamb chop, Bratwurst sausage and Iberico pork belly.
Healthy juices to wash down all that savoury rich food. Green Cooler which is cucumber, green apple and mint (RM15.80++). Watermelon Lemon (RM15.80++). Of course, wines and beer are also available :-D
