Grandpapa Tee (Ah Boy) Duck Egg Wantan Noodle in Taman Ungku Tun Aminah Skudai 郑爷爷全蛋云吞面

On the way to Batu Pahat, we swung by Taman Ungku Tun Aminah in Skudai for Grandpapatee wantan noodles.

Locating Grandpapatee is easy as it is along the slip road Jalan Bentara off the main road Jalan Tun Aminah. There is adequate street side parking at this stretch of one of JB's old foodie haunts.

Inside the shop lot restaurant, it is no frills, minimalist decor, and basic but comfortable furnishings. Air conditioning adds to its appeal.

Grandpapatee opened three years ago, is run by Ah Boy, the elder brother of the famous Ah B Wantan Mee of Tampoi (who also has a branch in Taman Johor Jaya).

Four of us, we ordered three 原味 "original flavour" (i.e. lardy) sauce with added chili sauce and Kevin ordered the dark sauce version.

This Grandpapatee wantan mee has the Ah B wantan mee DNA (as they use the same freshly made duck egg noodles and taste profile of sauces).

I can smell the alluring aroma of lard when the bowls of wantan mee arrived at our table.

The slender duck egg noodles were light but had a lovely springy crunch. There was enough of the lardy slightly spicy sauce to envelope every strand of noodle fully with flavour.

I asked for lard croutons but was told they had ran out (we were here at around 9am).

Char siew was the lean, thinly sliced, chewy type with slight flavour, so it doesn't compete with the egg noodles for our attention (unlike Kuala Lumpur style wantan mee 🤭 ).

There were a mix of wantan (minced pork) and shrimp dumplings in the bowl of clear but tasty pork & anchovy soup.

Both soup and meaty flavoursome dumplings were nice complements to the egg noodles.

They have a good range of drinks including this tempting teh peng which Ellone had (but I didn't try it).

My friend Poh Poh compared Ah B and Ah Boy's renditions. She prefers Ah B's noodles but like Ah Boy's braised chicken feet better. I shall be back for Ah Boy's chicken feet too. Didn't try it today as we were saving our stomach space for Batu Pahat 😄

JB is blessed with lots of good wantan mee to try 😋👈 click

  1. I love their braised chicken feet. Sometimes their menu don't reflect this item, you have to ask the staff personally. Oh, I also love the unlimited pork lard.
