As a mutton lover, I came to Bukit Merah View hawker centre because of the famous mutton soup here. I got here at 8am, three hours before the mutton soup stall open for business (to avoid the crazy queue). After placing my order with the friendly mutton soup boss, I had three full hours to roam around explore the hawker centre 😄 😂
That's how I stumbled upon Yong Chun Wan Ton Noodle 永春云吞面.

There are at least three wanton mee stalls at Bukit Merah View Hawker Centre. Yong Chun Wan Ton Noodle has the longest queue. Most of the residents in this old precinct are seniors and the stall holders seemed to know everyone. I am the only stranger 😁
I opted for the smallest $3 wanton mee serving as I wanted to save stomach space to try more stalls here (as well as the mutton soup).
The serving was generous for $3. I am sold, the moment I saw the drippy old school sauce.
The sauce was lardy, savoury, spicy, sweet with the savouriness and spicy heat lingering in the aftertaste. Love it. There was plenty of sauce to envelope every strand of tender crunchy egg noodle. Texture was just half a notch below al dente - perfect for "old people" like me 😜
The obligatory char siew was the wok stewed, lean tender type with savoury sweet taste.
I also appreciate it that they serve their wanton mee with chai sim nicely blanched to a juicy crunch.
Lard has a lot to do with why I like this wanton mee 😜
The soup had a bit of body, tasted porky sweet savoury. The wantons were meaty and seasoned in the old way with light soy sauce and pepper. I didn't detect sesame oil though.
Yong Chun Wan Ton Noodle serve a no frills, comforting, affordable meal.
