When Yishun people talk about wanton mee, they mean Yishun 630 Wanton Noodle and no others. Yet, this stall have almost zero social media mention (unlike its social media famous competitor steps away at Blk 632).
The stall got the usual suspects of char siew wanton mee, shrimp dumpling mee, chicken feet mee and also specialties like mushroom mee, spinach wanton mee and pork rib mee (I never come across this with wanton mee before). I don't know which is best, so settled on the classic char siew wanton mee for my first time here.
For $3, I got a mound of noodles sitting in a pool of dark sauce, topped with char siew and a handful of obligatory greens. There's a small bowl of soup with four wantons inside.
The soup was greasy but tasted good with pronounced mushroom flavour. The mildly savoury sweet wantons tasted OK 👌 but the pork and water chestnut filling felt mushed up (too soft).
The noodles were very well sauced. The noodles were the light, soft-spongy, crunchy type - personally I prefer heavier, firmer noodles.
The sauce was the standout - there was a fleeting mushroom taste and aroma. The dominant taste was a savoury sweetness with underlying heat from sambal. I like this sauce.
Next time, I shall order their mushroom mee as I think their main draw is the mushroom in their sauce. Dear Yishun Wanton Mee fans, am I correct? What do you like about this wanton mee? Which version do you recommend?

In the same 630 Brew Kopi Coffee Shop, there is a delicious sea bass fish soup stall. Try the chilli lime soup and the black pepper sea bass soup.
ReplyDeleteThey claim that their sea bass fish is sourced from local fish farm and no chemical.
Thanks a lot for the tip. I will check it out soon. Appreciate much.
DeleteI would prefer the 630 wanton mee over the 632 wantan mee especially the Dumpling is so much nicer with a full prawn wrapped inside... But cons is it will always be sold out fast as they always start selling as early as 4am plus 5am onwards... Overall would rate them 7/10
ReplyDeleteThey nowadays opens at 230am... Was there last Saturday morning, witness a que forming up at 215am!! Their shrimp dumplings were sold out at 3:20am!!! Less than one hour!! Must try!
