Most burger lovers in Singapore would have eaten, if not at least heard of Hammee's Burger, one of the hottest hawker centre burgers in Singapore now. Indeed, I love this unpretentious but very high quality and delicious street burger.
I have only three words for it 🍔 Soft, Juicy, Flavourful!
Commonwealth Crescent Market & Food Centre is today a little past its heyday. There were neither crushing crowds nor snaking queues even though there were a few really good food stalls here (more about those in future posts).
Hammee's is in an obscure inside row of stalls but there was a short line of people waiting before the stall opened at 11am.
Their menu is focussed - only have burgers - beef, chicken and fish. Make your order at the stall, pay, and you will be given a pager. Wait at your table and come back to collect your food when the pager goes off. Simple.
Ben came back with the double cheeseburger cut in half (to share) at our request because we wanted to try more stalls at Commonwealth Crescent.
It's a no frills stack of cheddar cheese, seared beef patties, tomato, lettuce, caramelised onion and sauce between a spongy griddle fried bun.
The fluffy, spongy bun was soft and slightly sweet. Searing on the griddle crisped its surface a little and gave it a bit of savoury taste from caramelised juices and grease (beef tallow).
The beef chuck patties were soft, smooth and oozing with tasty beefy sweet juices like a juicy fruit. Hammee's grind their own beef and sear it with beef tallow on their sizzling griddle on order. There was no sign of chewy tendon or sinew which I dislike in my patties.
I love the blend of rich beefy, savoury and sweet flavours from the beef, caramelised onion, cheese and signature sauce.
