This is a well loved, over 50 year old stall founded in 黑桥头 or Havelock Road / Beo Crescent area before moving here in Clementi in 1980. Now, the stall is in its second generation.
The queue just kept getting longer, the whole time that I was here. Every
time I am here 😂
But, the queue cleared very fast as they have a well oiled system here.
While we were still in the queue, the lady boss will come out to take our
orders. She will return to the stoves and two of them - husband and wife
team - will churn out the orders in double quick time, literally.
The plate of fried carrot cake which looked like a thick yellowish glob on
the plastic plate, came piping hot. They have white or black but don't
serve yuan-yang i.e. no mixed.
My over active imagination reminds me of The Glob 😄
I went for white so that I can taste the kueh better. The carrot cake
was greasy, mildly savoury, eggy, spicy, sweet - lots of complementary,
well balanced flavours in layers. The kueh were soft-tender and quite
smooth.
The scrambled eggs were slightly crisp outside while a little
moist inside. There was no chai poh (preserved radish) which I like in
my chai tow kueh. It's more like an omelette with chai tow kueh.
Clementi fried carrot cake get their carrot cake from Ang Mo Kio central carrot cake stall (Lim Hai Sheng Cooked Food). Note that they still have $2 serving.
AMK carrot cake also supply the popular Hai Sheng Carrot Cake stall in Bendemeer Food Centre. Of the three, Clementi serve the moistest version. Ironically, the AMK stall is less busy than the other two stalls.
