I came here because I saw buddy Aus Pe's Facebook post about Sentosa Beef Noodle stall 🙏 It's a simple, nice, year old beef noodle stall in a rustic residential corner of busy Taman Sentosa.
When I arrived at #12, Jalan Kasa 6, I was delighted that it's a zinc roof, tree shaded kind of eatery - the hyperlocal type I come to JB for.
It's actually the extension of Restoran Smiling F & B Service coffee shop.
There were just two food stalls inside - chicken rice on the left and then the beef noodle stall.
The beef noodle stall have both pork and beef noodles.
I ordered the kway teow soup with beef tendon only (price RM12).
The soup was slightly herbal, savoury, beefy (though not as beefy as I like). The taste of anise stood out. Bits of browned garlic, shreds of kiam chye (salt preserved vegetable), and onion add flavours like a subtle zing, saltiness and sweetness to the soup.
There were around 5 or 6 thumb size pieces of beef tendons. The tendons were soft spongy springy like firm springy jelly. I love tendons.
Don't quite like the kway teow they use as they were not the 100% rice type. Subtly chewy, don't like as it doesn't have any rice fragrance 😬
Their chili sauce is quite magical 🌶️ Savoury, spicy, sour, sweet. The quite sharp sting jolts the tastebuds awake, making everything, especially the soup taste better.
I quite enjoyed this beef noodle though I can't make out what type it was, except that it was neither Hainanese nor Vietnamese.
So I went to ask the two Vietnamese sisters running the stall. They said that is both Malaysian and Vietnamese.
I didn't ask further but guess the "Malaysian" part is garlic and kiam chye and the rest is Vietnamese but sans the salad of raw aromatic greens like mint, saw tooth herb (ngo gai) and also taugeh which I love so much.
