Nasi Padang @ Qin Garden (previously @ Restoran Kin Wah 锦华餐室) Johor Bahru

The Nasi Padang stall inside Kin Wah coffee shop 锦华餐室 in old downtown Johor Bahru is a big crowd puller the moment it opens for business at about . (This stall has moved slightly up Jalan Trus to Qin Garden coffee shop.)

The stall offers a wide variety of freshly home cooked dishes. The customers just pick what they like and the boss will total up the bill accordingly. I tried a few and shall definitely be back for more.

The beef rendang is tender and juicy. Each bite releases the fragrance of the spices and coconut milk. Yet it is not overly spicy, not too greasy and has just the right amount of subtle savoury taste - all signs of the chef’s confidence in the freshness and quality of the ingredients used.

The usual kind of beef rendang found elsewhere is often cooked too hard, and to cover up for the frozen beef used, the dish is overdosed on spices, oil and salt. The beef rendang at Kin Wah’s Qin Garden is simply delicious.

The stir fried bean sprouts are artfully done. The sprouts taste of garden freshness, loaded with natural juices and the texture is crunchy. Though the roots weren’t plucked off, the bean sprouts are very well washed. The shreds of equally fresh carrots, red peppers, and greens add colour and enhances the taste of the bean sprouts. Definitely one of the best stir fried bean sprouts I have eaten.

I shall be back to try out the rest of the Nasi Padang dishes and other goodies like nasi lemak, mee siam and mee rebus at Kin Wah's Qin Gardens.
