Food spotting is a hazardous pastime. Every so often we ate at a place that made us feel that we had wasted our precious calorie and cholesterol quota. Other times, we stumbled upon something so good that we felt like we were at the top of the world. Today is one such time for me.

When I saw Restoran Triple One in Taman Ungku Tun Aminah (TUTA), I was curious about what is Terengganu fish curry mee 丁加奴面. I had been to Terengganu a couple of times before but had not tried their brand of curry mee. Actually, I didn't encounter any memorable food there. Seeing that there was a steady stream of customers at this restaurant, I figured that this is likely to be something good.
However, when I saw the light clear curry and the couple of small fish which every customer ordered, I was a little hesitant. "Maybe this is not for me", I thought to myself. I had always thought that curry mee must be thick and rich with coconut milk. I am also wary of fish that is not fresh. As it turned out, these concerns were unfounded.
The clear curry was surprisingly tasty and flavourful. It was sweet and spicy - the pleasant natural kind of sweet, not the sugary kind. And the sambal chili had bite though it was not overpowering. In other words, it was just perfect.
It was a challenge for me to pick up a piece of flesh with chopsticks without breaking it.
The fish was so sweet, I was even able to eat the fish bellies without encountering any bitter taste at all. I even sucked the natural juices out of its head and it was wonderfully sweet.
I hesitated about uploading this photo.... but what the heck. I enjoy my food 😄
This whole set of curry mee and fish came to RM5 (2012 price).
This is one of those special days when i discovered a food gem. I felt like a prospector striking foodie's gold 😄
I have since visited Restoran Triple One many times. This is my second post on their Terengganu fish curry mee 👈 click
